In our ongoing work internally, team members have been attending webinars, sharing information, participating in the protest marches, and proactively learning about the inequalities experienced by Black people in our coffee community and beyond, and taking action to offer support.
We are happy to move forward this week (June 22) with a fundraiser in partnership with some of our industry peers – Acaia, Espro, and notNeutral – each of us offering to match $5000, to our chosen organization – for us that is the Equal Justice Initiative.

Our deep appreciation to the over eleven thousand participants in our Giveaway and Fundraiser. Through the support of the donors to the GoFundMe page, we have raised $2,902 to which we have added our committed $5,000 for a total donation of $7,902 to support the important work of the Equal Justice Initiative.
In addition, three white Encore grinders are going to the lucky Giveaway winners in the US, France and India!

In further support of our Specialty Coffee community, Baratza is participating in and sponsoring The (Un)Learning Club with $1,600. Over the course of a three-month curriculum, the (un)learning club will provide a space where white coffee professionals can work “to learn and unlearn the ways in which racism, colonialism and white supremacy have impacted the coffee industry and the people in it.” The Club will meet from September 3 until early January 2021. Many BIPOC subject matter experts will be presenting sections of the curriculum and we are grateful for the opportunity to ensure they are all compensated fairly for their time and efforts through our dedicated sponsorship.
